ode to the lemon
Image by jamelah via FlickrDrinking coffee all day long does give you a type of energy, but the trouble is it is the wrong sort.  As you probably know coffee increases your response which may be good in an emergency, but it is not a natural way to live. Ultimately it depletes your energy and your immune system and adversely affects your health.

So many people spend hours on the computer, and it can become a habit to reach for a cup of coffee to punctuate the day.  Coffee will eventually give you a sour taste in your mouth, while what you really need in Spring is a genuine taste of something sour.

Detox during Spring with lemons.

During the spring our bodies are de-toxing naturally, and the perfect way to help them is to provide a taste of something sour like lemon.  The taste of lemons will give added punch and help your body to get rid of excess fat and toxins.  Incredible though it may seem your body loses weight naturally at this time of year.  It makes sense as in the natural world animals need layers of fat to see them through the lean winter months, and when the earth wakes up, leaves start to appear and more food appears, those fat deposits are not needed any more.

Like animals we can benefit from the natural cycle of the seasons.

Changing your diet to include more sour less sweet tastes.

The first action you can take is to replace endless cups of tea and coffee.  To be honest they can become a habit.  Giving up those drinks can sound difficult if you have a stressful life and use the drinks as a pick me up.

The warmth of tea or coffee is important, so what we suggest is that you have a warm comforting drink first thing in the morning.  Boiled water and a slice of lemon will be much more appealing before you eat anything sweet.

It could help to imagine all the excess gunk leaving your body effortlessly helped along with the drink.  During the day you do need to drink water, and we reckon that hot water and lemon could soon become your favourite! Start gradually, and reduce the other drinks and replace with water and lemon.

The other action to take is to reduce the amount of sweetness you eat.  Having started the day well should give you a boost to cut down.  Your body does not need sweetness during Spring, so try fresh greens and food with more vitality which is far far better for you than stodgy junk food.  Over time you will find your taste preferences change and you prefer food which is not clogging up your arteries and metabolism.  Fresh vital food helps to give you energy, and eating lemons in spring help you to lose weight, so it is a double gain!

Simple and powerful. Boost your liver to detox naturally.  Put the kettle on and get started ..and imagine all that gunk effortlessly leaving your body.

Andrew Loosely radio interview on Marlow FM

Saturday, June 6th, 2009

Andrew Loosely was interviewed on Marlow FM the community radio station. He was a guest on “That Fabulous Friday Feeling”

Andrew explained that in fact he works all day on a Saturday at Healthwise Clinic but gets a double dose of a fabulous friday feeling. Clients come in for treatment on a Friday so they are all prepared for the weekend, so he enjoys their enjoyment before the weekend, and he gets his Friday feeling on a Saturday which is the day before his weekend starts on a Sunday. Andrew said that in fact he gets a good feeling every day of the week when he talks to his clients, and knows he is helping them improve health in body and mind.

Andrew gave some hints on improving health at this time of year. Hay fever is very common at the moment, and Andrew explained that a tea made from peppermint and elderflower, or alternatively from nettles would be help to soothe the unpleasant cold-like symptoms, and strengthen the body.

He concluded by giving a quick diagnosis of the health of Gordon Brown by looking at his face. This is one of the four methods used to assess health. If you want to know more you will have to ask at Healthwise…

Dandelion leaves – fresh and green

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Dandelions are a wonderful source of nutrition.  Pick the leaves while they are still small and you will be doing wonders for your blood and even your mood.

Young dandelion leaves are full of nutrition

The dandelion leaves should not have been contaminated with any harmful substance like fumes or weedkiller, and it is probably a good idea to wash the leaves anyway.

Dandelions can be munched on, raw, added to salads and made into delicious and nutritious soups.  They are particularly helpful in purifying and strengthening the blood.

Dandelions also help to calm feelings of irritation and anger which, you may remember, are emotions associated with the spring.  I have often noticed that gardeners who get angry about dandelions appearing in the lawn are the ones who would benefit from eating the leaves.  If they could just stop and eat it would do them far more good!

Weight and Diet the natural health way

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

We are getting a good response to Andrew Loosely’s talk on 24th March. It seems everyone is interested in losing weight and learning about the natural health approach to diet. Of course it is a great deal more pleasant to work with your body, rather than punish yourself.

People are very surprised to hear that it is easier to lose the additional toxins and the weght in the spring. Usually weight loss is a number one New Year resolution and – just as common – the weight is difficult to shift. The natural health way means that you are in tune with the season.

Lose weight – how far will you go

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

I have only just finished reading the “Sunday Times” (it can take ages!), and  was very interested in an article by India Knight about losing weight. She describes an Austrian clinic where you have enemas and a virtual starvation diet.

It is written wittily (she is a great writer) but from the natural health point of view .. far too extreme for the body.   Our bodies are not things to be bullied and starved, they are to be respected.  We live with them in a deep sense, not against them

And, best of all, your body is naturally detoxing and losing weight in the Spring.  It is much easier to work with what is happening naturally in your body at the right time of year.
Read India Knight’s article to see how far she is willing to go

Successful talk at Healthwise

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

January the 26th saw the first day of the Chinese New Year of the Ox and so we celebrated it at Healthwise with an evening of improving your health by eliminating toxins from your day to day life. The talk was called ‘As Nature Intended: Free of Toxins’  We had a great turn out and we’ve had lots of feedback to say how much people enjoyed it and asking for more talks :)
The talk discussed the 5 key areas in which toxins exist, often without us knowing about them and how they affect our health. The 5 areas are: Medication, Cosmetics (shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste etc), Plastic and Packaging (food ware, water bottles), Food and Water and Environmental contributions.
I am in the process of writing an e-book about this subject which will be available to buy on this site very soon. If you have any specific questions regarding this information please post them here and I will reply to you.
Thank you to all that attended and we hope to see you at the next talk in March which will be called ‘Natures diet – a healthy way to eat’ and will look at the optimum way to eat to prevent disease and live a healthy long life.

best wishes for the year of the Ox
